Tiger Tales - June 2008 |
“Are you Listening?”
On Sunday June 22, Pastor Zacharias had a very strong message in which he used the phrase, “Are you listening to God or listening to the world?” Who will you follow? Is our present time any different from the Old Testament times for the children of Israel? Have we become too jaded to say that the things God would have us do are not necessary –or do we need to be bold to speak up?
A Christian song writer, Larnelle Harris, continues this thought in the words of his song, “I Miss My Time With You.” How can we listen if we are not spending time in God’s word? God speaks to us in the words of this song.
“Those moments we share together, it hurts me to hear you say you’re too busy, busy trying to serve me. How can you serve me if the spirit is empty? There’s a longing in my heart to be more than a part of you. I miss my time with you.”
The effort of daily Bible reading, devotions and prayer in an area where it is easy to say “I am too busy.” There are many ways to fill this void. One tool we all have access to is the Portals of Prayer devotional book, which has daily devotions along with Bible reading and prayers. You might even consider a small group Bible study. There is a phrase we hear on many Sundays which calls for some clear thinking, too: “May the peace that passes understanding keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
William Fay in his book “Without Fear” says there are two Christian fundamentals we should follow. The first is “Love God with all your heart and life.” If indeed I could love God with all my heart, how different would my life be? What things would change? How would it look in my daily living? When I love God with all my heart my life looks different and I am filled with the peace that surpasses understanding.
The second fundamental is to tell as many people about Jesus as you possibly can. We are to be blood-bought, Word-taught, Holy Spirit-filled warriors of the cross filled with urgency for those who have not heard the Gospel. “So we fix our eyes on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).
Tony Dungy says at the end of his book Quiet Strength,
My purpose in life is simply to glorify God. We have to be careful that we don’t let the pursuit of our life’s goals, no matter how important they seem, cause us to lose sight of our purpose.
I coach football. But the good I can do to glorify God along the way is my real purpose. I want to help people see the path to eternal life through Christ, to enjoy an abundant life now, and to fulfill God-given purposes here.
We are all role models to someone in this world, and we can all have an impact—for good.
School Begins September 2nd
Many families are in the full swing of summer and have given very little thought to September or the beginning of school. However, combining the July and August newsletter forces us to think ahead. Our first day of school will be Tuesday, September 2nd. An opening chapel service will be held at 8:15 AM. In preparation of the 2008/2009 term, a classroom supply list is included on the following page. Additional details regarding the school term will be available in August.
Cooks Corner
I would like to say “thank you” to the Zion School Board, Zion Education League, and to all the parents, grandparents and Zion members for donating so generously this past year.
Also, a special “thank you” goes out to Earl Schmidt for doing a fantastic job of our recycling. Please keep our lunch program in your prayers. Watch for an update list of items need for the kitchen in the fall.
God’s blessing to you all. Bev Rolf
